3D Printers

Q1. How is a 3D print created ?

Parts are built in very fine layers, one layer at a time on the printer's build plate by printing a binder solution onto a bed of powder and adding anouther layer of powder then repeating until the model is complete.

Q2 What is the Build Plate?

The build plate is the re-useable platform on which the model is printed and allows the model to be easily removed from the printer.

Q3. How is the model Constructed?

The printing process is similar to an ink jet printer with the addition of a roller that carries powder from the fill bin to the build bin to attach to the binder.

Q4. Is there a lot of waste?

No, in fact after the item is printed any excess powder is removed and is easily recycled when the model is removed from the printer..

Q5. What turns the powder into a model?

The part or model is created by precisely printing its detail into the powder using binder fluid which bonds the powder together in layers together.

Q6. Can I build more than one model at a time?

Yes, a number of models can be built in the same print run providing they can be fitted into the build area. This is easily achieved using the Z Print software to manage the total build layout.

Powder Recycling Unit

Q7. How do I recycle the powder?

The powder recycling unit allows the printed item, as it is removed from the printer to be made completely clean from excess powder. This excess powder can then be recycled.

Q8. Is the part complete when it leaves the printer?

Yes, The printed part is then complete and ready for handling , depending on the desired finish additional processes and infiltrates can be applied..

Q9. What is the Powder Recycling unit?

The Powder Recycling unit is a self contained, vacuum and air duster to remove all of the excess powder from the part for recycling.

Q10. Are the Parts strong enough to withstand frequent handling?

There are a number of different infiltrates available which allow the strength of the model to be enhanced or provided other properties such as elasticity and flexibility.

Optional Finishing

Q11. Can the look and feel of a part be changed after printing?

Yes, Parts can optionally have a wide range of finishing techniques applied to them depending on requirements. If working with an early stage prototype this may be painting or polishing. However, if the requirement is to produce a late stage customer presentation prototype then this might be done using chrome plating or other advanced finishing techniques.

Q12. Are there any expensive consumable parts in the printer?

No, The printers all use standard HP print heads such as you might find on a regular desktop printer, these will need to be replaced periodically, dependant on usage.
